The Faculty Council (FBR) is the highest decision-making board responsible for matters concerning Faculty 07. Chaired by the Dean, it normally meets four times per semester, with an additional session during breaks if urgent decisions are required. Various committees provide recommendations to the Faculty Council.
Examination boards operate at institute level and serve as points of contact for exam-related questions and disputes.

The Faculty Council (FBR) is the central governing board for the four institutes, bringing together representatives from all status groups. It serves as a platform for discussing shared concerns, setting policies, and making decisions through voting. Meetings include both public and closed sessions. The Managing Director and Deputy Managing Director (who takes minutes) also attend in an advisory role.

Specialised committees are an integral part of academic self-administration. Specific responsibilities are delegated to these committees by the Faculty council. For more detailed information, please refer to the individual committees.
The Committee for Teaching and Studies (Ausschuss für Lehre und Studium, LuSt) focuses on matters such as examination regulations, the development of new study and degree programs, and the awarding of prizes for outstanding student theses and papers. The Committee for Study, Graduate Affairs, and Research Funding (Studien- Graduierten- Forschungsförderungsausschuss, SGFf) meets as required. One of its responsibilities is reviewing applications for the German public-private scholarship (Deutschlandstipendium). Contact: Prof. Dr. Johannes Palitzsch (History Department).

The Committee for Budget, Structure, and Capacity Planning (Ausschuss für Haushalts-, Struktur- und Kapazitätsfragen, HSK) deals with matters related to the overall budget of Faculty 07. If you have any questions, please contact the Dean via the Department Management Office.

The Library Committee (Bibliotheksausschuss, BibFB07) handles library matters for Faculty 07 and meets when necessary. In addition, the Joint Library Committee of Faculty 05 and 07 (BibFB05&FB07) meets as required to address shared library matters.

The joint Ethics Committee of Faculty 05 and 07 (Gemeinsame Ethikkommission FB 05 und FB 07) advises on ethical questions in humanities-based empirical research involving third parties (e.g. survey participants). It meets as required and helps ensure personal rights and ethical standards are respected.

The Joint Committee on Doctoral Regulations for Faculties 02, 05–07, 09, 10, as well as the Academy of Fine Arts (KHM) and the Mainz School of Music (HfM) – Gemeinsame Kommission für Angelegenheiten der Promotionsordnung des FB 02, FB 05-07, FB 09, FB 10, Kunsthochschule (KHM), Hochschule für Musik (HfM) – is represented by Prof. Dr. Ludger Körntgen (profile).
The examination boards at the institute level are your point of contact in cases of doubt in exam-related issues. They offer guidance in unclear situations and handle complaints and appeals. You can also contact your responsible board if, for example, you require extended writing time during exams due to a health condition or impairment. Objections (such as those regarding grades) can also be submitted here within the deadline. – Please make sure to check first with your examination office to see whether a formal request to the board is required.

The university-wide Doctoral Candidates’ Representation (Vertretung der Doktorand:innen, DoV) is elected by PhD students from all faculties. It currently consists of 21 members and is officially recognized in the Higher Education Act of Rhineland-Palatinate. As such, it is a formal body of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz
